Blepharoplasty is a facial cosmetic surgery that Dr. Cuzalina performs on both women and men. When the skin starts to lose elasticity, it causes bags or excess skin around the eyes. Typically developing in older adults, it may also happen at an earlier age for patients who have a genetic predisposition. During your initial consultation, Dr. Cuzalina will discuss your cosmetic goals, listen to your medical history, and determine if this procedure is right for you. In most cases, ideal candidates have sagging skin and folds on the upper eyelid or puffy skin underneath the lower eyelid. These issues can create functional problems that hinder your ability to see. For some patients, the condition is caused by underlying issues, such as an allergy or thyroid disorder. In these patients, the proper treatment may be medical rather than surgical. Depending on your type of blepharoplasty, Dr. Cuzalina will administer general anesthesia or IV sedation. During your procedure, he may perform it on the top of the eyelid, under or on the bottom eyelid, or a combination of both.   To increase your field of vision and for a more appealing eyelid appearance, upper eyelid surgery decreases the folds of excess skin. The incision is placed along the natural crease to remove loose skin and fatty tissue.
• Lower
  Lower blepharoplasty reduces puffy and bulging skin underneath the lower lid. The incision is made along the lash line so Dr. Cuzalina can remove excess tissue and fat. The incision placement also reduces the appearance of your scar. Next, he gently lifts the skin for a flatter, smoother look. If you experience discoloration or for additional smoothness, we may use a nonsurgical laser procedure and injectables.

Following the completion of your surgery, Dr. Cuzalina closes the incisions with a fine, absorbable suture.

Depending on if you have one or both eyelids treated, blepharoplasty can last for up to two hours. After the procedure, you will need a few days to recover and rest at home. To reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort, patients can use cold compresses. Your blepharoplasty results may last a decade or longer; however, even though they last long, aging does not stop.
